OSG – HY-PRO Thread Forming Taps H2, TiCN Coated, Cobalt
These are the same taps we have been using in our shops for years. We have literally tried dozens of taps over the years. We thread a ton of titanium and stainless. These are hands down the best for the money. We have discovered that the three biggest keys to thread form tap life are, Cobalt, TiCN and proper hole diameter.
Remember…….. Thread forming taps move the material to form the threads. They do not cut away material. So, they have to have proper hole size to be able to move the material into the right position…
THE DRILL SIZE CHART BELOW IS A RECOMMENDED SIZE BASED ON A 70-75% THREAD ENGAGEMENT..
DEPENDING UPON THE MATERIAL AND THICKNESS BEING USED, YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER USING ONE DRILL SIZE LARGER..(Next size Larger drill would be next size smaller number)
