OSG – HY-PRO Thread Forming Taps H2, TiCN Coated, Cobalt
These are the taps we have been using in our shops for years and are, hands down, the best for the money. We have discovered the three biggest keys to thread form tap life are Cobalt, TiCN and proper hole diameter.
NOTE: Thread forming taps move material to form the threads. They do not cut away material. They must have proper hole size to move the material into the right position.
THE DRILL SIZE CHART BELOW IS A RECOMMENDED SIZE BASED ON A 70-75% THREAD ENGAGEMENT.
DEPENDING UPON THE TYPE AND THICKNESS OF THE MATERIAL USED, YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER USING ONE DRILL SIZE LARGER. The next size larger drill is the next size SMALLER number.
